Hotel de Glace – Quebec

Inspired by the original in Jukkasjarvi, Hotel de Glace located only 4 km from the north end of Québec incorporates the same functionality but in even more refined form. The dazzling decor includes huge snow vaults, crystalline ice sculptures, with 44 rooms and suites. Each year designers sketch up the hotel and build it in a matter of weeks every fall, implementing something different – a new bar, a new bed, etc.

 

Alta Igloo Hotel – Norway

The Igloo Hotel is the first one built in Norway and the second in the world. All exterior and interior is made of snow and ice; rooms, the beds, even the glasses in the bar. The hotel has 30 rooms, suites, an ice gallery, and ice-chapel (perfect for dreamy winter weddings). The hotel is decorated with ice sculptures and beautiful artwork.

 

IceHotel – Sweden

This is the original IceHotel and has been built every year since 1980. Bedrooms have blocks of ice beds, covered with fur, skin, hides and sleeping bags. You’ll need to bring lots and lots of layers when staying here as the air in the IceHotel is always between 17 and 23 degrees Fahrenheit – Brrrrrrrrr, Chilly!

 

Aurora Ice Museum – Alaska

The Aurora Ice Museum, located on the grounds of the Chen Hot Springs Resort, is the world’s largest year-round ice environment in the world and is the only ice hotel in the US. Everything is made of ice; beds, chairs, counters, glasses. You’ll be mesmerised by the ever-changing coloured ice crystal chandeliers overhead depicting the Aurora Borealis.

Within the museum, they have created a two story observation tower with a circular staircase, life size jousters on horse-back, a polar bear bedroom, a Christmas tree bedroom, a kid’s 2 story fort bedroom and a Northern Lights room with an ice outhouse made exclusively with from he Alaska Diamond or Alaska Marble ice.

 

Balea Lake Ice Hotel (Chapel) – Romania

Only accessible via an able car in the winter, this ice church is located in Romania at the Balea Lake Ice Hotel.

Kirkenes Snowhotel – Norway

Kirkenes Snowhotel (also known as winter wonderland) opened for the first time in 2006. Every room in Kirkenes Snowhotel is like a small treasure. The rooms are five metres in diameter, and they are equipped with everything needed for a comfortable night.

All of the 24 rooms have a different theme from Arctic culture or nature. The lighted ice sculptures give the Snowhotel a very cosy and special atmosphere.

 

SnowVillage – Finland

SnowVillage is situated just north of the Arctic Circle in Lapland, Finland. It’s a magical world of ice and snow. Each year, around 20 million kilos of snow and 350 000 kilos of crystal clear natural ice are used to build the spectacular SnowVillage which changes in shape, size and design to amaze visitors year after year.

SnowVillage features an ice restaurant, ice-bar, ice slide and a chapel.
